SCOV Holiday Lights

Sun City Oro Valley (SCOV)'s Holiday Lights Committee (HLC) has evolved from a few Garden Club members to its own small committee reporting to staff (Robin Coulter and Mark Wade).

2022 is our forth year making winter holidays in Sun City special by providing flowers made from bright LED lights displayed in our common areas. The concept of these "flowers" comes from the Bellevue, Washington Botanical Garden's Garden d-Lights.

The SCOV Holiday Lights Committee (HLC) was officially formed in 2021, although exhibits began in 2019. HLC responsibilities include planning, purchasing, creating/making, arranging the decorative placement for the newest year, actually erecting them (via rubber mallets and lots of bending!), establishing lights-on timing and minimal exhibit dismantling early in the new year. Staff works with us to insure everything makes sense from a Sun City perspective.

These bright LED lights are not inexpensive to purchase. However, the cost of electricity to SCOV is minimal as all lights are LED - and with our tremendous solar capacity here, barely worth mentioning! Expenses for this project have been born by committee members, contributions from the HOA and in 2021 the Foundation helped. Our 2021 Holiday House Tour displayed homes of seven Sun City residents with all proceeds going towards future displays.

Donations are gladly accepted at any time of year, checks to SCOV can be mailed to Holiday Lights Committee, 14620 N Chalk Creek Dr.
